We made a small observation of how many gallons of water we use to take one shower, the bucket in the picture was kept under the shower until it was till the rim, we found out that for every 4 minutes 5 gallons of water is poured. This observation helped us determine that we should take our shower inside 4 minutes to make sure we are not overusing water.

using soapnut powder to wash dishes sounds like a good idea, esp if it is something our elders adopted, it is kind of vetted. thanks for sharing, Lakshmiji! Sairam!

Sairam All,
We are trying to be mindful when it comes to water usage. Like many others, we too have a shower head which pumps out less water with more pressure. In our shower head we also have a setting to pause water in between a bath.
The other things that we do is have a bowl in the kitchen and collect the water used to wash vegetables, rinse clean vessels before using them and also dal water and use it to water our plants.
I collect the rice water separately and use it to wash my hair as it is a very good chemical free natural conditioner to the hair.
One of the things that I have been working…

Sairam,
I put a steel vessel by my sink, so I can put the water from washing fruits, rice, dals etc and then use that for plants.
